Curriculum
Our curriculum provides a broad and balanced educational experience for our students. We aim to provide all students with the highest standards of teaching and learning, alongside opportunities for personal development and give them encouragement to help them achieve their potential within a supportive, caring and disciplined environment.
Please click on the ‘subjects’ link on the right of this page to find out more about what your child will be learning in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. We hope you find this information about subjects useful.
Details of how homework fits into our curriculum can also be accessed from the ‘homework’ link on the right-hand side of this page.
Students study a three year Key Stage 3, giving them a firm foundation of knowledge across a range of subjects which will enable them to make suitable choices for their GCSE courses. These options are chosen in the Spring term of Year 9. Full details of the options process can be found under the ‘KS4 options’ tab on the right-hand side of this page. Please note that the offer of subjects as KS4 changes from year-to-year depending on staffing and demand. We always aim to fulfil students first choices.
Our approach to curriculum design aligns with the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014 (SEND Regulations) by:
-
Ensuring Equal Access: The curriculum is designed to be accessible to all students, regardless of SEND by making reasonable adjustments to teaching methods, resources, and assessments.
-
Inclusive Teaching Practices: We use inclusive strategies, such as differentiated instruction and scaffolding to support all learners to experience success.
-
Providing Reasonable Adjustments: This includes modifying teaching materials, lesson plans, or learning environments to meet the needs of students; providing assistive technologies, such as screen readers or voice recognition software; offering alternative formats for learning resources, such as large print, coloured overlays, or audio versions.
-
Promoting Equality of Opportunity: Creating a curriculum that allows all students to participate fully, offering diverse subjects and approaches that are adaptable to individual needs.
-
Meeting Specific Duties under SEND Regulations 2014: This includes meeting the outcomes specified in students' EHC plans, which may include adjustments to the curriculum or additional support. Teachers also adapt their instruction to support students with SEND effectively.
By integrating these principles, Colfox complies with the Equality Act 2010 and SEND Regulations 2014 to create a curriculum that is inclusive, equitable, and supportive of all learners, especially those with disabilities or SEND.
