Careers Fair appeal to help students explore amazing opportunities

The Sir John Colfox Academy is holding a ‘West Dorset Careers Fair’ to help students across the area explore opportunities and plan their futures.

Colfox Academy is appealing to businesses, charities, public sector organisations and other workplaces to exhibit at the Careers Fair in October. Students from other schools will be invited to visit the Fair.    

Michael Thompson, Head of Careers at the Sir John Colfox Academy, said: “This is a great opportunity for businesses and other workplaces to inspire the next generation to join them.  

“We are appealing for companies and other organisations to come along, showcase what they offer and encourage young people to aim high and explore different career paths. 

“Previously the West Dorset Careers Fair attracted more than 1,000 students and we had wonderful exhibits from more than 50 providers, it promises to be an amazing day and we look forward to welcoming everyone, thank you to all employers who have already showed an interest, please sign up to register an interest at: Colfox.org/careers 

The West Dorset Careers Fair will be held at the Sir John Colfox Academy, the Ridgeway, Bridport on 24 October 2024 from 9am-4pm. The high quality of Careers Education at the Sir John Colfox Academy was recognised recently, when it won the Dorset Careers Hub 2022/23 Mainstream Secondary Schools and Colleges Category.   

The Dorset Careers Hub congratulated the school’s Careers Service for attaining all eight of the Gatsby Benchmarks for Careers Education. The Gatsby Benchmarks are a framework created by the Government's careers strategy that defines what good education is. Research has proven that meeting the benchmarks has a significantly positive impact on student's career readiness and GCSE results.
